After repeating the line

“His mercy endures forever.”

The Psalmist shares this…

Psalm 118:5-6

The words are simple and yet not simplistic. God engages both our emotions and our circumstances. He does more than makes us feel better, he actually makes us better. He rescues us from actual danger or he gives us the courage to face it, perhaps to be over run, outwardly defeated, and yet inwardly strengthened.

Work for me has been complex with a lot of moving parts. I work in a team that has a heavy workload. I am sometimes on call after hours and do not get regular days off.  I have been distressed, feeling like not enough butter being scrapped on too much bread. It has been a comfort to me to call on God having the confidence that he will bring stability into my life. It is good to be reminded that I am not alone; ‘The Lord is on my side.” Like the Psalmist, I will declare “I will not fear.”

Since starting my new work I have wanted to get off to a good start, to make a good impression, to work hard and most of all to be of service. These words have given me the confidence to slow down, to tell the team that I have been over-reaching and that I need to rest. My confidence is that “The Lord is on my side; I will not fear.”

May God give you the confidence to identify ways you can slow down, be more open with your team so that you can find a greater sense of peace in your life.
